Redbrand Wildlife fence is a great choice to keep unwanted critters out. That is the main goal for fencing for Alpaca and Dog owners, since they do not challenge the fence like cattle do. It is available in 48 inch, 60 inch, and 72 inch heights and is also referred to as Redbrand Deer and Orchard fence.

Alpaca Fencing Alternatives.

Some Alpaca owners prefer two by four inch “no climb” horse fence sixty inches tall. That is very expensive heavy wire to install when you figure in the larger posts needed to secure it. With the additional cost of the fencing and the heavy duty posts you will need to handle it, the installed total price might be over two times the cost of Redbrand Wildlife fencing. Some Alpaca owners also use two  by four welded wire fencing. It is more comparable in cost to wildlife fencing, but welded wire fence  does not stretch at all, so it is very difficult to cross low areas or hills where as Redbrand wildlife fence can be stretched across those easily. The welds on welded wire eventually rust as well.

Deer & Orchard Fence uses the Monarch® Knot as a hinge under pressure, allowing the fence to bounce back into shape, and it also  resists weathering as well as wear and tear due to the galvanized wire . This fence comes with one inch spacing near the bottom, gradually increasing to four inches apart at the top. Rabbits or groundhogs will not get through the lower wires, and the five or six foot height should deter coyotes. Yes, I know groundhogs can burrow under, but that goes with any fence!

It comes in handy 165 foot long rolls, weighing around 100 pounds each. I installed some five foot tall wildlife fence, it is part # 2360-6-14 ½ it was very easy to work with. With rolls weighing only 100 pounds,  anyone can handle them.

I used four inch diameter treated wooden posts and 6.5 foot tall TEE posts from Southern States. I used six inch diameter treated posts for my H braces at either end and about every 80 feet.

Redbrand deer and Orchard wildlife fence is too lightweight for horses or cattle to rub up against. If you did use this is in one area of a pasture , you should add a strand or two of electric wire inside the fence to keep cattle from pushing on this wire.

It is not as easy to find as walking into a Lowes or Tractor Supply, but you can purchase it. On the internet, I see it listed by True Value hardware, and some other fencing suppliers and you should be able to order from the redbrandstore website. The ease of installation and lower cost of this fencing will make up for a little delay, you will likely need to order it and wait for delivery.

Because the low wires are so close, you need a piece of pipe to step on and hold that low wire down while you staple the top wire. With normal cattle fence, you just step on the bottom wire and pull up.

Close up of the lower wires to show you how close they are, about 1" at the very bottom.
